AWC Crashes when adding Network Share Folders

Postby daven » Thu Feb 25, 2010 3:15 am

Hi Steve,

I'm using version 4.7.20 on Vista Home Premium x64. I tried to add a folder from a network share and got the following error popup.

Error in cmdBrowse_Click().CCRPFolderTV6
Source:CCRPFolderTV6
Error 9 - Subscript out of range

After I acknowledged the popup I could select the network folder (via the GUI), but as soon as I selected it AWC crashed. This behaviour is reproducable, so if you need more info I can get it for you.

I can work around the problem by mapping the network location as a drive, but would prefer not to do this.

Cheers,
Dave.

Edit: Mar 29, 2010
corrected x86 to x64

Hi Dave,

I'm sorry I thought I'd responded to this post already. I think I may be cracking up

I wouldn't expect you to need a drive mapping to make this work: can you tell the full UNC path that you are attempting to select?

It's would be worthwhile updating to the latest version of AWC too: I fixed a bug in it that meant that network shares could not be dragged and dropped onto the list: they just didn't appear after the drop. I would be interested to know if the share you have a problem selecting can be successfully dragged into the list from Windows Explorer. Another alternative is to hold the <SHIFT> key when you click the add button to get a simple data entry box that you can type into.

Again, my apologies for the late reply. I look forward to hearing how you get on.
Regards

Hi Steve,

I wondered why you were ignoring me  but figured you'd get to the post eventually.

I just realized that I made an error in my original post:
I'm using version 4.7.20 on Vista Home Premium x64 - in case that a 64 bit OS makes a difference.

I'm not at home for the next couple of weeks, but will try updating when I do get back.

In the meantime, I will try to replicate the problem on one of the PC's here (which is XP Pro x86) and answer your questions. If I recall correctly, just selecting the root share (\\dns-323) was enough to cause the error. I do recall trying different share names (e.g. \\dns-323\Volume_1\multimedia\photos) and they all had the same problem. I'll also try the <SHIFT> key and report back whether or not it works.

Cheers,
Dave.

Hi again Steve,

Apologies for the long delay.

I've just installed AWC version 4.7.53 on a Vista Home Premium (32 bit) PC, and can replicate the crash.

After starting AWC minimized, I restore the main window and select Add from the main dialog box.
In the Select Folder popup, I scroll down, close the Computer branch and expand the Network branch.
The network branch expands and shows the same network targets I normally see in Windows Explorer, however without doing anything else, a few seconds later I get the Error popup described earlier.

AWC_Error_Network.jpg

If I use the method you suggested (hold shift while clicking on Add), I can successfully add my network target (\\DNS-323\Volume_1\MultiMedia\Pictures) into the text box, and AWC does parse and display the photos on the network share - thanks for posting that tip.

The Select Folder popup appears to default to the folder currently selected in the main dialog box when you click on Add. If my network share (added via the shift Add method), is selected when I click Add, the above crash occurs immediately after the Select Folder popup opens (likely because the Network branch is already expanded).

Cheers,
Dave

Edit - I just tried dragging and dropping a network share. This also works properly.
Edit2 - Uploaded a screenshot of the Error message and placed it inline.
